The Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project was a classified project created by the US government. It was a group of scientist trying to make a bomb using the atomic theory. There was two ways to make the bomb. One way was the gun way where it shoots uranium into a bigger uranium core which made it explode. The other was the implosive kind where high explosive lenses explode to compress the plutonium core. The US was the first country to find out on how to make the bombs. The two bombs were dropped on Heiroshima and Nagasaki.

This was an eye witness account of the trinity shot. He experienced "three balls of fire",. click here to read entire account. this is significant because this is an eyewitness account that truly shows the emotions of those surrounded by it. He was in a plane and he remembered looking out the window and seeing a cloud of dust that was huge.
Here is a news paper on the warfare or "menace" of the world. This article is a primary source that was written back in the time of world war2. This article explains the chaos that the war brought to many people. Many people were afraid of when would the world end. They didnt know if Japan would attack back at the U.S.. This is a significant peice of material becuase it shows the phsycological minds of those back at the time and shows how they dealt with the situation at that time because it was composed as if they were going to survive. This article showed the strategy of the Us and how they dealt with the issue at that time. U.S. used this atomic bomb to end war but it really ended lives
In 1939, the Nazis were rumored to be developing an atomic bomb. The United States initiated its own program under the Army Corps of Engineers in June 1942. America needed to build an atomic weapon before Germany or Japan did.
General Leslie R. Groves, Deputy Chief of Construction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was appointed to direct this top-secret project.
